we want quip!

I have heard it said that the original Law and Order is superior to its offshoots (SVU, CI, etc.). Personally I never noticed any differences in quality, although I don't doubt that there are some. Either the different shows are made for different target audiences, or the producers are trying to win the same audience with different versions of the show. I have found the stories in SVU more compelling, and I am willing to state my opinion even though it may mean I am attracted to the more violent cases. But I think there are probably other factors, too, like the variation on the theme song.

This episode started off strong. The story had it all: brutality, hookers, and a cute dog. But where was the quip from one of the lawyers in the final scene? Instead the audience was left with a monologue obviously intended to give us nightmares. That quip is useful - it serves to calm the audience after an hour-long story of violence. I think the ending quip is even more useful than the beginning ones. I mean, why do we need quips before the episode? The lack of an ending quip is only forgivable if the episode was too long. Here's hoping next week's episode doesn't make the same mistake.
