This episode continued the tradition of beginning with an opening plot which ends up having no relationship to the main storyline. Another notable aspect of the plot introduction is that it was made more complicated than necessary: Homer could have shown disrespect to his family in any number of ways, and for that matter, he could have altered his mind in a more conventional manner. One of the great things about The Simpsons writing is that it does not often go for the obvious, especially in the later years.

The two TV parodies were great. I feel sure I've seen at least one of them air on FOX at some point.... What is television coming to?

p.s. How does The Simpsons get away with airing the new "Treehouse of Horror" episode before the season premiere?
