all grown up

Once again, there were no surprises in Everybody Loves Raymond this week. How does the show stay popular with minimal character development and without any of the movement toward the soap opera employed by many comedy shows?

This episode is not the first I've noticed with a quick wrap-up ending, though it appears to be local to this series. The plot is frequently unresolved until the last moment, and just as I notice there is hardly sufficient time to tie up loose ends, one single line or action does the job. This time the ending was not only quick, but also possibly incomplete, as the audience cannot be sure that Debra's solution succeeded. But either way, the next new episode will have moved on to the next caper.
